My 1st and only Big Friend... I met Sandy my very first year of teaching. She was kind and brave enough to take a new teacher on as her little friend. Sandy was teaching 4 th grade at the time and I was teaching 2nd. My first year (and the 6 since) have been a blur. But I remember Sandy helping me learn how this big/little friend thing worked. She planned and prepared wonderfully engaging things for the big/little friends to do together. By far she did most of the work, I just watched her model these activities and in doing so I learned how to do them myself. I will carry the activities on to my next big friend; she even left her file with me. Thanks to those wonderfully engaging activities, Sandy and I were able to get to know each other. Aside from having teaching in common, I learned that there were other things that we shared: Sandy is a gardener; I am an aspiring one. We've spent time talking about sweet peas and roses. I'm looking forward to some rose bush maintenance lessons in the future. Both of our hearts belong to beloved dogs that are no longer with us and are both on the brink of letting a new one back into our hearts. Puppy plays dates are in our future too. Since it's 08 and out the gate, it's time for Sandy to start the next new exciting chapter in her life, and I hope it is full of family, love, laughter, flowers, dogs, birds and lazy days. Sandy, I will miss seeing you around campus everyday, but I know that you'll be in my life for years to come. Enjoy your well deserved retirement!!! Much Love, |
